The Beginning of a Professional Journey Please introduce yourself and tell us about your expertise. I am Reza Ghorbani, a tailor and designer with 40 years of experience in bespoke tailoring and suit design. My expertise lies in pattern-making, custom garment design, and the precise execution of classic and formal wear. Every piece that leaves my atelier is meticulously tailored to match the client’s body, style, and personality.

How did you enter the world of tailoring?

Tailoring runs in my family and has been passed down from my father. I started sewing at the age of 10, and by the age of 12, I had sewn my first pair of trousers. I was proud to stitch my own name, “Reza,” onto the waistband. I have always sought innovation, and this passion drove me forward in my career. During my military service, when they asked if anyone knew tailoring, I volunteered. They tested my skills, and I tailored a suit for the commander. Seeing my ability, they provided me with a small tailor shop, which I gradually expanded, adding modern equipment and improving the workshop. At 18, this was a major achievement for me—it taught me how to build a professional business from scratch.

Work Style & Challenges

Work Style & Challenges

Who has been your role model in this field? Through newspapers and magazines, I came across a master whom I still admire and respect deeply— Without a doubt, Master Bijan Pakzad, one of the world’s greatest designers, has been my role model. His philosophy was always centered on quality, attention to detail, and creating luxurious and exclusive garments. I have followed the same principles in my work. Have you faced challenges in your professional journey? Of course! Challenges always exist in this profession. However, thanks to the lessons I’ve learned from my mentors, I’ve developed the mindset to embrace challenges, focus on solutions, and overcome them. By God’s grace, I have always been able to navigate this complex path successfully.

Design Philosophy & Uniqueness

Design Philosophy & Uniqueness

What sets you apart from others? I believe that a tailor must always be in a state of continuous learning. I strive to learn something new every day and seek inspiration and innovation wherever I go. I have attended fashion and textile exhibitions in countries such as Italy, India, Istanbul, Ankara, Izmir, and Dubai to stay updated with the best styles and techniques in the world. Events such as Istanbul Fashion Fair (Istanbul), Ege Textile and Apparel Fair (Izmir), International Textile Fair Dubai (Dubai), India ITME (Mumbai, Bangalore, New Delhi), Milano Unica (Milan), and also Expo Textile (Dubai), Istanbul Fabric Show (Istanbul), Texworld (Paris), Premiere Vision (Paris), and Fiera Milano (Milan) have provided me with invaluable opportunities to discover the latest trends and tailoring techniques. These experiences have helped me stay ahead in my field and incorporate global innovations into my work.

Exclusive Commissions & Influence in Fashion

Exclusive Commissions & Influence in Fashion

What are some of the most special commissions you have worked on? I have had the honor of tailoring garments for many well-known individuals. If I were to name just one, in 2020, I had the privilege of designing and tailoring a suit remotely for the legendary actor Behrouz Vossoughi. How has working with celebrities influenced your career? My mission in this profession is to elevate the standard of dressing in my country. Well-dressed individuals, from celebrities to politicians and diplomats, help me fulfill this mission and contribute to the growth of a refined fashion culture. The more people dress consciously and elegantly, the greater their social standing and personal confidence will be.

Advice for Aspiring Tailors & the Future of Fashion

Advice for Aspiring Tailors & the Future of Fashion

What is your advice for those who want to pursue tailoring? As I answer this question today, based on market principles of supply and demand, the tailoring industry is nearly saturated, with limited room for new entrants. However, for those specializing in unique and niche skills, opportunities still exist. My advice is to dedicate at least 36 months solely to mastering their craft before stepping into the industry. A Quote from Master Reza Ghorbani: "Do not dress for the job and position you have today; dress for the position you aspire to reach."
